The Power to Pivot: How Being Flexible Can Help You Overcome a Bad Day

These few weeks I have been reminding about the power to pivot. You know, that skill that allows you to adapt to changing situations and turn challenges into opportunities. Sounds fancy, right? But it’s actually something we do every day, especially in IT.

Think about it. How many times have you faced a problem that seemed impossible to solve? How many times have you had to deal with a rude customer, a buggy software, or a deadline that was too tight? How many times have you felt underappreciated, overworked, or underpaid? If you’re like me, the answer is: too many.

But guess what? We still manage to get through those hard days, and sometimes even enjoy them. How? By pivoting. By finding a new perspective, a new approach, or a new solution. By being flexible and creative. By learning from our mistakes and improving our skills. By finding joy in the process, not just the outcome.

Pivoting is not only good for our work performance, but also for our mental and emotional well-being. It helps us cope with stress, frustration, and uncertainty. It helps us grow as professionals and as people. It helps us appreciate what we have and what we can do.

So next time you face a hard day at work, remember: you have the power to pivot. You have the power to make it better. You have the power to be happy. And you have the power to inspire others with your example. You’ll be amazed at how much easier and funnier life can be when you’re flexible and open-minded.

Until next time, keep pivoting!
